Nancy McKibben
Contributing Editor, Columbus

In addition to the small business owners she interviews for ASBR, freelancer
and author Nancy McKibben’s interview list includes Pope John Paul II, whom she interviewed when traveling in Eastern Europe as a journalist in the seventies.

“Communism still ruled Poland, and Cardinal Karol Wojtylla was a strong, charismatic leader.  After talking to him in person, I was not surprised that he was later elected Pope,” Nancy says. “But I just like to interview people - they don’t have to be famous.  People’s lives always surprise me.”

An award-winning author (her novel The Chaos Protocol was a finalist for the 2000 Ohioana Book Award for Fiction), Nancy also writes for Columbus’s new local food magazine, Edible Columbus, which will premiere in March of 2010.

Although creative writing is her first love (she is also a lyricist and children’s book author), commercial writing helps pay the bills. “Writing is writing,” Nancy points out.  “I’m happy to do all kinds, from web site copy to white papers to company histories.”

Nancy lives in Columbus with husband Mike, CEO of Leader Technologies, a software communications company, and son Justin, the last of their six children, all of whom she homeschooled. “I’ve always liked a challenge,” she says with a straight face.

Are you looking for an accomplished, professional voice to write for your business or company?  With two children attending The Ohio State University (Go Bucks!), Nancy is actively looking for additional work.  Please contact her at:

Jan Fields
Managing Editor, Hilliard/Dublin

Jan Fields is the Managing Editor of the Hilliard/Dublin Edition of Abec’s Small Business Review. A native of Columbus, Jan has nearly 25 years experience both as a staff writer/editor for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and as a freelancer.

Jan is skilled in producing public relations material, news releases, newsletters, newspaper and magazine articles, brochures, speeches and white papers. She is experienced in managing the production of publications and previously published a local pet care magazine, Pets Today.

She specializes in business profiles and topics related to small business development, marketing, pet care, the environment and outdoor recreation. She also has experience writing about biological and natural science, engineering and legal topics.

“As a freelance writer, my goal is to enhance your image, improve your profit picture and make your life easier,” Jan says. “If it carries your name, shouldn’t it be the best reflection of you?”

Jan has always loved animals. Over the years, she has shared her home with four parakeets, nine collies and too many cats to count. She wrote newsletters for veterinarians for eight years but decided to publish a pet care magazine so she could explore holistic medicine, natural diet, gentle training methods and the physic bond between pets and owners. Currently, she owns three collies and eight cats.
